In my experience, building relationships is very important in retail; whether it be colleagues, customers or even fellow classmates from college.  The world of retail can be very big yet very small at times, and it is always nice to have people in your corner and to be surrounded by a good support system!

No matter what industry you’re in, network network network! I’ve met so many creative and inspirational people over the years and wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Retail is an exciting, fast paced, and challenging career field that is evolving.  The industry is open to new ideas and innovation for many areas of the business, and it is a great time to be involved in it. The best part of my job is being able to see my own vision executed in our stores or online, and the satisfaction of keeping our customers happy.  I remember learning about the "Rights of Retail" as an undergrad, and they couldn't describe my job any better.

I found my Retail Merchandising Degree to be extremely valuable in my career and enjoyed my time on the St. Paul campus. The size of the classes helped me form friendships with other students and the professors were very accessible. I am very proud to be a graduate of the University of Minnesota Retail Merchandising Program.

I began my graduate studies as a quiet foreign student in the master's program in what was called the Graduate Program of Design, Housing and Apparel. Pursuing both a masters and subsequently a doctoral degree at the University of Minnesota (UMN) was a transforming experience in my life. The things that I learned during this time continue to inspire me to this day.

The Retail Merchandising major affords dynamic opportunities, so allow yourself to be open to different possibilities! My merchandising experience at Target was invaluable, but I now enjoy focusing on building and developing great teams. Is a career in HR related to my major? Absolutely!

I would've never imagined a BS-Retail and an interdisciplinary DHA masters would've gotten me all the places I've been so far.
