Degree Programs

Bachelor of Science Degree in Retail Merchandising

Majors in retail merchandising learn merchandising principles that are applied across a broad spectrum of U.S. and global retail businesses.  Students apply these principles in a variety of formats including store, Internet, and catalog.  Outstanding instructional opportunities are offered students including travel to domestic and international retail centers and opportunities to study aboard.  Today’s employers are seeking individuals with leadership abilities along with the ability to innovate.  Students complete internships that offer examination of retail careers and enhance a student’s job competitiveness upon graduation. One of the few four-year undergraduate retailing programs in the nation offered through a college of Design, the program features courses that address creativity, innovation, and analytical skills.  Students can elect an apparel emphasis or a general retail emphasis.

 

Undergraduate Minor in Retail Merchandising

Minors in retail merchandising are introduced to basic merchandising principles. The minor provides the opportunity to explore several facets of the retail industry including retail buying, visual merchandising, and multichannel retailing. Outstanding opportunities are provided students to meet minor requirements including travel to domestic and international market centers.

Graduate Degrees with an Emphasis in Apparel

Graduate study in DHA with an emphasis in apparel advances both theoretical knowledge and applications for textile and apparel products related to human behavior.  Students may focus on design, aesthetics, apparel product development, material culture, historic dress, social science aspects of dress, consumer behavior, and merchandising.  Upon completion of the graduate degree, students are prepared for teaching and research positions as well as other careers within the textile and apparel industry.
